Two expert presentations at Helsinki Book Fair on Aino and Alvar Aalto's Italian connections

Autumn 2024 will mark the 100th anniversary of the renowned Finnish architect couple Aino and Alvar Aalto's honeymoon in Italy in 1924. The Aalto's travels has been commemorated with a “Honeymoon Route” in Italy and seminars in Florence, Padua and Venice on 8-11 October 2024.

The Allan and Bo Hjelt Art Foundation has been supporting the Centennial of the Aalto's honeymoon to Italy 1924–2024 and the anniversary publication includes an article on Consul Allan Hjelt and his connection to the Aalto's.

Professor in History of Architecture Antonello Alici (Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona) will present his research topic: the unforgettable honeymoon trip to Italy in 1924 at the Helsinki Book Fair on 27 October at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre. Tommi Lindh, CEO of the Alvar Aalto Foundation, will later talk about the Aaltos’ travels and their architect’s office’s links with Italy in conversation with professor Alici.
